I'm curious...if they wish to be so elitist why are they often refered to as a "texas timex"?

Never heard that before but there is allot of big money in Texas. Example Oil! Big money folks buy the Luxury watches more for show that as a tool or collectable.

Anyone else not surprised? Given the times, I'm shocked they didn't go up higher than they did.

There's still some hope, 3T. I just called my AD in NZ and prices are still the same. He confirms in many other countries, prices have risen but not in Kiwiland. I also called 2 ADs here in the Philippines and answers were the same.....no price increases at all.

Strange how Rolex has managed this price change

This is very true. A Rolex really has become a status symbol for many non-WIS. There are still many that appreciate the history associated with the more storied models i.e. Submariner, GMT,Explorer and Day-Date(President). There's quite a bit of history with all those models.
The best way to purchase a Rolex in my opinion is the secondary market. Unless I become rich, I'll never get a Rolex from an AD. There are quite a few trustworthy resellers out there where a used or NIB model can be had at better prices than at the AD. Are they still expensive in comparison to many other brands out there? Yes, they are, but their value diminishes the least of most of the brands out there where certain models are concerned.
