Scrated my head a little when the youngest called broken down on the interstate.  He'd just picked up his little Honda coupe from the transmission shop the day before.. battery was new.. lotsa recent little "nickle & dime" repairs (that still added up to a pretty hefty sum)..

Drove up to take a look-see.  Couldn't get her started for love or money.

News from the local shop wasn't good.. broken timing belt (along w/ the expected bent valves, etc.)  mistake.gif

But then...

Spotted a locally owned 944 by the road w/ a 4-Sale sign in the window the very next day.  Turns out it's the same little Porsche that we've seen terrorizing the neighborhood for years.  It's been driven by a local atty's daughter til she 'moved up".  Sitting for a few years after that.

So all my time and "watch money" has been spend reviving this ancient water cooled swabian.  Prolly sexist to say I hate buying a car "from a gurl".. but this one's been neglected in exactly the ways you'd expect.  Duct tape applied instead buying the appropriate $2 part.. plugs and wires ignored to the point of disintegration.. coffee colored goo where brake fluid should be.. plugged up drainholes and mildew in the aft compartment.

Just yech!

But it's cleaning up nicely.  AC was dead, but it just needed a switch and it's blowing like the arctic now.  Cleaned up the interior, blew out the mildew "aroma", and it looks like a proper teutonic steed again.  Poor thing stumbled and bucked when started, but after a new set of Bosch platinums and wires, tracking down a few vacuum leaks, oil & coolant flushes, injector cleaning & fuel filter it actually starts & idles like a  P O R S C H E  now!

So youngest son has the college car of his lower-middle-class suburban dreams, and it didn't break the bank.

Looking like I got to make lemonaide this time.  Guess even a blind pig DOES find an acorn occasionally!

*pssssst - anybody have an old Honda 4-cyl engine leaning unused in a corner somewhere?

Little follow up...

Hot labor day weekend spent underhood, but it's nearly a car again!

Shoulda taken before photos, but this is how Son just drove it off.  Plenty of work remaining, but it's getting there.

Thanks guys.  Had one of these back when Jonathan was 4-5yrs old.  (lemonen gelbe - kind of a Jag primrose yellow color) Think that's why he's so pumped about this one.

'Course it's already acting up.  Heading to Knoxville tomorrow w/ some relays and ignition parts to see if I can get it back on the road.  (..or if I'm going to have to have a real mechanic take a look at it)

DOH!  mistake.gif

Nice Car Danny

I hope you get it sorted out, 944s can be like 914s when chasing out issues.

When they run, they run good, when they dont, theyre a bitch.

Cheers
