Some of you may know that I have been chasing an old style Rasmus in blue for quite a while. I had a deal cooked up with a very nice seller in Australia, who eventually withdrew his watch from sale. The kind Australian seller put me in touch with the Aussie AD. I had a discussion with the AD which led him to speak with the factory and eventually offer me an opportunity to specify a new blue one with ETA (which would turn out to be the last ever blue to be built and which, by now, probably resides with the AD). But at the price I was given, my eyes still haven't stopped watering. Instead, and with the assistance of O to remind me to get the ETA version, and with a little help from triggers placed into about 10 watch research engines - I tracked down this nice used Rasmus in black. First impressions are: "frickin' excellent". Fricker case (copied/modded from the Eddie Platts Dreadnought on which, long story short, he could't protect copyright in the case design and several manufacturers "copied" it), crown at 4 operates like a knife through butter, genuine ETA inside, keeps time to within +3 seconds a day (have only had it for a week, but this is consistent), beadblasted case with beadblasted bracelet. I note that for the Rasmus the 5-link end links are machined where they meet the lugs to have the same angles as the chamfers on the lugs, whereas some other manufacturers do not do this. A small point, but worth noting. Kit came with OEM hinged metal box, papers, a bl**dy nice leather strap and a deployant rubber (which will never see wrist time cos I am not a big fan of rubber - but it is a nicely done example). It is substantial on the wrist. Not top-heavy. Reeks of top-class German build quality. Lume is ballistic. And whilst I have read comments here about some not liking them - I absolutely love its bezel nipples! IRL they are not a dominant part of the case design and they differentiate it from other Fricker-cased models. Thanks to stew77 for the kick in the butt this morning which reminded me to get pics up. So please enjoy these poor attempts at photography, gents.

Thanks Graham and Stew77 for your kind comments. It's a ripper and the chase was certainly worthwhile. No buyers remorse here! Last edited on Wed Oct 23rd, 2013 06:23 am by IanM |

Cheers BRP! Fades in comparison to some of your spectacular pieces, but it is a long-hunted one for me, and worth the long-winded wait!
