Well, I have definatly been one of those not singing praises about Rolex in the past, and laught long and hard of all those that went bonkers over "broken" rolex dials, old dead tritium and all other flaws and quarks that made up the vintage Rolex world ...
But now, after I have owned five of the brand, I ended up falling head over heels in love with this 1977 1680 Submariner. It is in extremly good condition for the age, and there are only small switrls to be seen on the unpolished case and bracelet.
I currently also own the lates maxi case submariner, and eventhoug that has far superior movement, metall used in both case and bracelet, bracelet and clasp and actually really good WORKING lume as compared th the old 1680 ...well, the oldi still is the one that really gets my heart racing. It is true lovetoon1.gif and I`m afraid I have started down road that will eventually lead to buying overpriced-old-cracked dial and corroded hands-watches.
But man, they age nice:0)

Can't argue with the classic, mate. Something irresistible about the
Rollie 1680. Looks in fantastic condition! Enjoy!

Very nice amigo, and in very good condition. Maybe it is just my eyes, but you might have to look at the crown base to case distance. Enjoy it, amigo!

Thanks a bunch everyone, really appreciated:0)

And Jeff, nothing wrong with your eyes buddyThumbsUp02.gif Also had to look twice on the crown when I first got it. But t is exactly as it should be luckily. It is a bit bevelled towards the case, so the crown sits 100% flush with the case, but gives the appearance of not being completely screwed in. Been through the ropes with a friend of mine that is a really passionate collector of vintage Rolex. And this one has been inspected with a loupe (quite litteraly, hehe) and as he said "this is by far the prettiest 1680 I have ever seen ...and everything matches, from the silver date wheel to the matching patina on hands and dial") As I also was pretty sure of, after googling and comparing pictures til my eyes bleed, hehe.

Only thing changed it the bezel pip that was probably changed sometime in the late 90`s or evarly 00`as it is the correct plexi perl, but has luminova filling.

But, will stop my ranting about old quirks now, as I know I`m just shy of a load from the Sherriff, as he is no real fan of the brand and definitely not vintage

Well, you know Rolf, I just don't get hypnotised by what other persons say and I never had any need to belong in or fit in, to say it so...
But if you found your stuff there: Go ahead and enjoy!
It' s for sure a very nice find for it's age! Congrats!
But I tell you something: If the Rolexers on the net would stop to worship those watches like they would survive hell and back without a scratch and even bend light at will, me and others would have certainly stopped to laugh each time we read them comments.
This said, you know that I'm just a pragmatic guy...

Rolf, you are right about your research on that crown. I agree. It sure is a pretty piece and certainly a heavy addition to your growing collection.

Enjoy it in good health for a long time.
