Thanks  Ken and Tony!  We were out practicing on a leash tonight.  She threw a fit a first but got better as we went on.  We are going camping next weekend so I want her to be ready for that.  Dogs have to be on a leash in the campground.    Cant wait to go camping, will be nice to get away for the weekend.happy1.gif

Do you have to be aware of PARVO in your neck of the woods?

Im not able to take my dog out of the yard til hes had all his shots, so hes been pinned in my back yard since we have had him and not this Saturday but Next Saturday he will finally be able to get out and go to the beach.

He really needs out to kill some energy

There does seem to be an outbreak of PARVO in some areas of the country...I know it has been on the news here lately!

I havent heard. I spoke to the vet andthey didnt say anything. We go monday for her second set of shots.  I do know that she will get a parvo shot.  Border sreally need to get out and run. I am thinking about getting some chickens so she can herd them.  If you dont find some work for them to do they will go nuts.  They are one of the closest dogs related to wolves.  Their herding instinct is actually when wolves circle thier pray before the attack.  The "final Kill" has been bred out of them.  They intimidate through sight instead of contact, they stare down what they are trying to herd.  Only if a sheep isnt responding will the dog make contact to get it in line.  This is why you have to be careful with young kids around borders.  They look at the kid as a sheep and if the kid goes running the dog wants to herd it.  If the kid continues the dog may grab the child.  If they get bored they can be very destuctive also, they are so intelligent that if they want to do something they will work at it till they figure it out.  Anyone thinking about a border do your research.  They arent for the faint of heart.

I just got off the phone with the vet.  She has had her first parvo booster and getting second on monday.  If she didnt have any then she would be at risk.  At 14 weeks she will be completely vaccinated.  Now I feel better.
