James Brown, the godfather of soul passed away last night due to pneumonia. Brown was plagues with drug addiction throughout his life and his behavior was often time erratic in his latter years.

Do not forget the Godfather in his prime however. Brown was undoubtedly responsible for creating several sub genres in popular music and was a bright voice for African Americans during the struggle for civil rights. One need only look to his televised performance in 1968 in Boston where he united a city torn by racial rioting. Too often, we only remember the parody and not the Man.

Put a little funk on today and shake your moneymaker for JB!!

I purchased "live at the Apollo" many years ago. I also recall seeing James for the first time in a Drive-In Movie (can't remember the name) along with the Rolling Stones and others. Mick Jagger got many of his moves from James Brown.

I also used to hear James on a radio station in Tenn. called WLAC. At night the signal would come in clear on my AM radio at 1510 on the dial way up in Michigan!
