This is a brief, preliminary review of my brand new Vortex, that will be followed by a longer version, a few weeks later.
Owning already about a dozen of mechanical watches, two Panerais and a Bell&Ross, just to name the most prominent pieces, I’d define 4 categories that would force otherwise mentally healthy individuals to buy an other watch:
1. design
2. quality of finish
3. technical refinement of the movement
4. prestige
The above order might vary of course, this is very personal, but if you are lucky enough and prestige is not your principal priority, there are a couple of manufacturers offering very good value for your money. Interestingly, these are mainly German made watches or German companies, such as Stowa, Schaumburg or even Steinhart, beside of course the object of this recent review: Dievas.
This German made watch comes from the company of Albers Tan, the man behind Gnomonwatches in Singapore, who has been very famous for his excellent service for a long time trading mechanical watches on the internet worldwide.
When I pre-ordered my Vortex, I didn’t even know that Albers owns the Dievas brand, so choosing a timepiece from his shop, that’s his own company’s product, was just a co-incidence.
My watch has arrived within a week after confirmation; in spite of the recent logistic difficulties caused by the Eyjafjallajokull volcano (you shouldn’t pronounce it loudly while reading this).
This timepiece comes in an excellent package, that is also very original, white carton outer box with Dieavas ribbon, and red pseudo-seal on the box. Inside: no-nonsense leather looking strong watch box, with all the necessary staff. Everything feels very decent; it’s good to touch and even smells good! (You shouldn’t sniff this for long if you are not alone with the box).
The watch looks stunning in the flash, even more remarkable than on the photos, the flieger-uhr dial layout is still one of the bests, watchmakers ever created. The gray high grade titanium case has similar grey colour, than that of the original B-Uhren, while the rotating bezel is nice contemporary extension of its otherwise excellent functionality.
I’m continuously wearing it for 3 days and my first impressions are still little bit too fresh and early to put them down, so I’ll back in a couple of weeks to continue the story!
Thanks for your time!
