Does anyone know roughly what the import duty on a Moray Bronze is at $1350?

I must say I also looked up if there was a European sales branch of Benarus considering it's a German company but couldn't find one which was a surprise. Is there any reason for this?

Also do we purchase the watch minus US tax as I didn't see anything on the website?

there is no US tax...as far as duty, that is something you should know living in UK,as far as what percentage you pay,and the reason there is no Germany office is because Ralf,co-owner of Benarus who is German moved to Thailand( a Thailand office is being set up),his Father still resides in Germany though,I hope this helps.ThumbsUp02.gif

Thanks for the explanation as to no European office. As for no US tax, I take it then US customers pay their local state tax upon it's arrives?

Bummer for us Brits then as the Bronze is looking like a £1100 purchase after VAT and probable import taxes. mistake.gif

The only relevant import tax into the UK from outside the EU is VAT at 20% (charged on the total of both the item value and postage). There will also be a handling fee charged by the courier (e.g. Fedex, UPS, Royal Mail, Parcelforce) which will be in the range £8 to £14.

There is also Customs Duty at 4.5% on watches imported from outside the EU but due to the bizarre way in which it is calculated you are never actually charged this on a single watch shipment. You will only ever be charged it on a multi watch shipment and then only at a maximum of the UK equivalent of €0.80 per watch.

So for a £1350 watch (with P&P of $50), $1400 total, you will pay $280 VAT or about £185, plus the £8-£14 handing fee. So about £200 total.

Thanks watcher for the breakdown.

So at the current exchange rate of $1.47 (probably all we will get at the moment) the Bronze will work out at £1110 which is roughly what I was expecting.

Does anyone know how long a watch should take clearing UK Customs? I've been tracking my delivery and it appears that my Moray B has been there since Thursday with no further info to say its left there yet.

It's all about how busy the customs are with them controls: Can be one day or 5...
Once I received a package from the UK 3 months after it was sendt: No explanation.
Last week, it took 1 month: Was written "Sendt to wrong address Australia".
Who knows why when a big "NORWAY" was marked on it.
After that, it took 5 days.
The UK is a mysterious island....

I think it is great that you guys are sharing your experience on this with each other so you know what to expect. I have many people overseas in different countries ask me what they should expect and I tell them to check with local laws and customs. This is something that we have not had to deal with inside the USA... YET. But we are seeing new bills that are quickly being passed that will probably go into law very soon that will create cross state taxation on all internet orders. These new laws are going to be very confusing and put a lot of burden on the small online stores like ours, but we will wait and see what happens and do whatever we need to do to keep moving forward. I have already asked Paypal if they are prepared for this... and they are not, but they told me they are waiting to see what becomes law first.
