We have again come to the last chapter of yet another tremendously busy year. For starters we spent a fair bit of effort improving the décor of our brand new boutique, to be as cozy and inviting an environment for our customers to talk and indulge in watches. Next up on the agenda is Basel world 2008. Although this is my 5th annual trip to Basel, each year is different and offers its share of buzz and excitement. There was a huge presence from the fashion houses with the likes of Chanel, Armani going large on their displays and creative floor programs to show off their timepieces to the world. I was amazed at their willingness to spurge on what is predominately a horological establishment, an indication of how fast the watch industry is growing. There were some new refreshing designs floating about from new contemporary brands as well as bold, classic conceptions from the more established historic brands. A lot of those ideas are contrived from the larger watch code carried over from recent years, further dismissing big sized watch affection as being a temporary phenomenon. Every Baselworld cannot be complete without meeting up with my European suppliers, a lot of whom I have become mates with throughout the years. Overall, I would say Baselworld 2008 is a huge hit and succeed in her primary objective as being the world’s premier advertisement platform, helping to elevate the leverage of timepieces in both the luxury and civilian consumer market.
In September this year, after months of planning, Gnomon Watches in conjunction with Dievas Watch Company became an official exhibitor at the Singapore Formula One Grand Prix. The 3 day event, 1st of its kind held at night, showcased the best of top class engineering, precision technology and the passion for motor sport. We were blown away by the sheer size of whole event, bringing all the cars from abroad, accommodating the teams and endless stream of spectators, diverting peak traffic and converting a generally busy stretch of road into a racetrack was quite a feat in itself logistically. The Dievas booth got its share of interest from the public and was a befitting opportunity for the brand to gain intentional exposure. The generous positive feedbacks we received regarding our watches and the nice people we manage to meet ensure that we end the event on a high note. We are already looking forward to F1 2009!
In 2008 we saw significant advancement in the development and production of Dievas watches. Earlier in the year, we launched the new Dievas Divergraph series of tritium equipped watches which are incredibly well received internationally. New high-tech advance coatings such as PACVD-DLC and TiNite are also applied to our watches such as the 6152 LE ‘Black Diamond’. All the coatings are specifically designed for Dievas by our German manufacturing partner, a renowned name within the chemical industry. Just recently, we showed our first pilot watch to the world, The Flieger Timer is a watch that incorporates striking contemporary design whilst still keeping vintage lines. This quality German made watch coupled with a Swiss 1960 vintage caliber adds diversification to the current watch lineup at Dievas. This shows the company’s willingness to venture into new pastures and a tasteful eye to build quality timepieces.
There are already more interesting new models in the pipeline which are due for release anytime soon. With extended experience and customer feedbacks, Dievas are striving to improve on the design and quality of our watches, Rest assured we will bring unique ideas and exciting watches in the future to come.
