Goodbye... well at least for a little while.  My JSAR is on it's way to Duarte to get a transplant.  He is going to remove the quartz movement and replace it with a Swiss auto.  He is also going to use a black date wheel so it will still have the same "look".

Just got and e-mail from Duarte yesterday, telling me that he received the watch and that it will be ready to ship on Friday.  Not sure how long the other guys take, but Duarte seems extremely fast ThumbsUp02.gif.

Fantastic mod!

I'm with JD though.. not gonna hold Duarte "to the penny", but if you could share with us about what kinda money the auto movement set ya back, that would be great!

Congrats on the auto JSAR.

I got lucky, he already had a used ETA 2824 movement from an OW watch that at his shop that he sold me. I'm not sure if you have to supply him a movement otherwise or if he will order a new one for you.  I did a search and a brand new movement is between $140 - $160 depending on the level of decoration.

$100 ETA 2824 movement
$25 black date wheel
$4 stem
$35 dial/hands installation
$4.80 return shipping
insurance is 95 cents per $100
Total: $168.80 + insurance

Sounds like you got a DEAL!  Well done, and thanks for the figures.

Sorry, but who is Duarte and have you had any issues with the conversion to an automatic? I am looking to have the same conversion done but want to be sure about it.

Duarte does custom work and his site can be found here: http://newatchworks.com/

Might be interesting to hear how these conversions have been for y'all long term?

My J Sar has been running spot on for me, I am very pleased with the conversion done.

I dont mind a quartz version either, for when Im on the Run and need the time to be already set.

Cheers

Huck

I have used my watch in pools and the ocean since Duarte converted mine, and I have not had any issues.
