Topher1556, I so much agree with you, on principle, but I think the idea you advocate is spoilt by people who can't say "Some Rolex and Omega", but just have to list every model of Rolex and Omega they've ever dreamed of.  Somebody may be very interested in Rolex, but not yet have one.  I'm interested in Omega, but I'll admit I went to the duty-free areas from time to time and bought one.  I'm not proud of having shown such a lack of taste and patience;  that's not collecting!  It's like fishing with dynamite.  Where's the fun?  Some people dear to me have received some very unexpected presents, and my watch collection is still just as satisfying.  And credible!

There are so many good quality watches out there that can be secured for very reasonable money.  I've just agreed on a nice little "business suit" watch, ETA movement, for €112, delivery included.  I've been after that one for months, but the price always seemed a bit high.  I got it at under the price I was aiming for.  Deeply satisfying!  If I don't wreck Photobucket I'll up-load some pics.

(Do we include sun-dials, cell phones and hour-glasses?)

Is there a debate dedicated to this in a more appropriate part of TTT?  I'd like to pursue it, but here would be wrong, would it not?

Yea there are watches out there for most every level and taste of WIS. I have watches worth $50 to $5000 and love them all. Some favorites in the collection but it is not based on value it is based on how I like them. Look, feel and comfort on the wrist. As the saying goes. "To each their own..." :)

oagaspar, Skipdawg, I agree with you.  The very essence of a collector's forum site is the variety of opinions and ideas about collecting.  I will defend anyone's right to disagree with me, but it has to be quid pro quo.  You gentlemen have demonstrated to me that such is the case here.

I am very much looking forward to learning from you all.  I will certainly up-load the results of my recent hunting.  I promised my wife to reduce the average value of my collection if she would promise to never raise the subject again.  Hohohohoho!!! She did not foresee that the average could be reduced by adding lower-value watches;  she thought I would do another round of prezzies of watches above the average.

I will get into those up-loads, but, really, success will not bless the first attempt, nor the...

It's just shy of 11 pm here, so this is sign off now, to go and dream of a land of free watches.
