Hey everyone, I excitedly posted a couple of q&ds of this watch on the Daily Wrist Check after it showed up on Thursday, but I thought it deserved its own post.

May I present my 1968 Zenith 1000M Diver....

Known as an A3637, it houses a Zenith Caliber 2542 PC.  The 2542 PC movement was a workhorse for Zenith in the 1960s, with over 225,000 made.

(seller's photo)

You can see the date opening at 4:30, which was a signature of most Zenith watches of that time.  They did make a few with a 6:00 opening and it appears that my date wheel is from the 6:00 version since the date would be square at 6 rather than 3 (still investigating that issue).

One of the neat features of this case is the inner minute markers are raised from the dial to create a three dimensional effect.

Amazingly, the lume still functions after 40+ years, although it fades quickly.  I guess there's a reason they used radioactive materials back then.

The crown is original and screw down, and matches the screw down caseback.

One of the other nice features is the original Gay Freres bracelet with diver extension, which is rare to find on older Zenith watches. Every GF bracelet is stamped with the date that it was made and this one is stamped "3/68."  Given that it only fits my wrist with the diver extension out, I'll probably switch to a rubber or nato strap in the future.

Final shot of my A3637

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my new watch!

Mike

Among the very best I've seen. Zenith's reputation is top-rate. Big Congrats, Mike.

I'd suggest a nice trip to the spa to quickly bring back the gloss and sheen on the corners, edges and other surfaces PLUS, if you're thinking of a strap, I'd recommend a black or orange Isofrane rubber in vintage retrosicuro buckle. That's a 20mm lug, right?

Only the best for the best, Mike. Enjoy that drool magnet for a long time.

Thanks to everyone to replied, I'm fortunate to have found one in this condition.

I wanted to update one thing.  After acquiring the watch, I emailed Zenith for additional information and they wrote back today.

It turns out that it's actually an AH3639 that was manufactured in October of 1968.  It's nice to see a manufacturer respond so quickly to just a minor inquiry.
