Squale has just introduced a very affordable diver that comes in two versions: Classic and Vintage.

The Classic has silver hands and the Vintage has goldtone hands. That is the only difference I can see looking at the pictures.

Both models have a flat sapphire crystal with a date magnifier, a sixty-click diver bezel, a 40mm x 12.1mm 316L stainless steel case, white SuperLuminova on the hands and markers, a pip on the bezel, an easy-grip screw down crown, and a stainless steel bracelet with deployant clasp. 200 meters WR.

Inside is a Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement and the package also includes a G10 NATO Military Strap.

Price is just $400 and it is available from either:

Squale had it's "own design" and line since long...
I find it sad that they produce pure copies of the classic R.sub who finally reveal them Asian case and parts produsentoh my.gif
And still enjoying the "Swiss Made" label as much as Helenarou could, if they had an office in Switzerland.
Nothing new there: There's a bunch of those sub clones housing a 2824-2 or 2836-2 at this price point or lower.

That said, it's a pure sub copy and Steinhart has it's model with aluminium bezel insert for 372$ and 404$ for the one with ceramic insert.

(if you are out of Europe and exclude the VAT)
But Gnomon has them for 450$ international shipping included.
Everybody makes those models around this price...
In my eyes , Squale made a mistake there: They should have hold to them line.
Now they stamped them forehead with "Hong-Kong classic clones". Too bad.

I don't feel as strongly about it as Will but I prefer Steinhart's offerings if you are going to go down the Sub tribute road. Also, I do think that Squale are slightly diluting their brand. Steinhart is a fine, affordable watchmaker but has no history to preserve and, as long as it makes good quality timepieces (which it does), it's not going to get too much flak for going down the homage route. Squale, on the other hand, have a history to trade on...

The Steinhart is a nice watch. No argument. So are most of the others that come to mind that are copies of a classic design. Now Squale has their version.

If they come with a LUPAH, then I may be concerned. toon1.gif
