That looks like a sweet watch. I have two Citizen watches that I really like, including a Signature Grand Complication, though while certainly a step below this Campanola line, is really a great value. I love the build quality and the watch functions. |

I owned that watch for awhile. I found it too big for "dressy" and too nice for "sport". |

Could never put such money in a quartz even it was telling me the time and date over 5 places in the galaxy |

without a doubt Tony one of the most beautiful dials out there imho, and a 5 year warranty!...Will,to buy a mechanical with these complications would run upwards of $80,000.+...something I doubt I would ever spend on a watch...Nord,I am hoping it lands by Friday, supposed to be clear and sunny here, perfect day for wristshots! |

Oh yes Oscar, I know what you mean about a mechanical version and it's price... Question is: Do you fancy complications because you use them all or do you fancy engineering masterpieces like most of the mechanical versions buyers? |

Hammerfjord wrote: Oh yes Oscar, I know what you mean about a mechanical version and it's price...I like watches that are complicated, not because I use all the complications ,but because they take more time to build, and are works of art. ...because the Campanola is a quartz does not make it any less desirable than a mechanical imo, all Campanola’s are hand assembled and have hand finished quartz movements, not your typical quartz movement. The complications and high quality craftsmanship is top notch, and from what I have researched is that only 13 of the finest watchmakers at the Campanola facility in Shinshu Japan are skilled enough to make these timepieces. The Campanola is a fine Japanese watch,Citizens marquis, much like Grand Seiko is to Seiko, and not to be mixed up with any Chinese,or other Asian brand we may have seen popping up lately. The case is hand made, and polished to perfection, then that finish is protected by Citizen’s DURATECT coating, which increases the hardness factor by about 5 times of a normal SS case.... it has a double domed, curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal ,the dial is also hand finished in Urushi lacquer that is done by only one artist. "This artist has been doing lacquer work so long, he no longer has fingerprints due to the lacquer build up". The special lacquer is made from the sap of a tree that grows only in eastern Asia, the Campanola with burgundy dial is one of few models to use this technique,Urushi lacquer, with gold flecks, and that is what drew me to this model Campanola,it was the dialwork, along with the complications...it should land tomorrow, and I will post pics.I am pretty amped to be able to pick one of these up,and since they are no longer available in the USA will become harder to find as the years go on imo. |

Oscar...truly a gorgeous execution from Citizen!!! I definitely enjoyed the YouTube summary in the link! I am stoked to hear that you have one incoming and can't wait to see your real world pics! Awesome complications in an incredible hand built piece from Citizen (I was surprised to hear that this Campanola case has been treated with Citizen's excellent Duratec coating that I've come to love in my Autozilla...appears to be tough as nails and resists scrapes and scratches with ease in real world use IMO!). Don't hold back on the pics when this one lands tomorrow!!! |

Yes, I knew about the lacquer and the duratec... I'm just one of those who see little value in quartz mvts whatever them achievements because for me, they have no soul. Specialy when your average smart phone is much more advanced than this citizen mvt. It's just a sensation it gives me: Not specialy because I see the mvt but more because I know it's there. So, I don't understand why a mvt like that is worthy of such attention to the dial&case work. I understand your attraction but I could just not buy it. Enjoy it, they will not be produced during many years! |
