Dear colleagues,

I found this picture on the internet I guess that this watch is probably bronze, but it looks very rusty. I want to know
if this happens to all bronze watches or only at a certain age. If this happens to all, then please let me know how fast it happens. Furhtermore, is there anyway to get rid of them once the show up.
As I said before, I would like to have a bronze watch, but I do not like this rusty look.

The patina you speak of is oxidation - with iron or steel it is called "rust" Yes all Bronze pieces PATINA over time & yes you can clean them up after the Patina process.

Here's a home remedy:

Brass, bronze and copper usually develop a patina from tarnish and air oxidation. The patina may be part of the design element on antiqued pieces. A mixture of 1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup vinegar and enough flour to make a paste removes the patina on bronze and brass when rubbed onto the surface. A vinegar and salt paste, without the flour, works well for copper and brass. Rubbing the cleaned metal with olive oil brings out the shine and luster once the patina is removed.

There are other ways as well.Google how to clean Bronze.

A warm welcome to 3T Aladinas! thumbsup.gif

Great looking straps and buckles you are producing!Thumbsup3.gif

Regarding the Bronze watch shown in the picture, I think someone would have to work very hard to make it look like the picture shows (I guess they are going for a corroded look, but IMO, that is not the type of Patina that typically develops on a bronze case over time). I agree with William's comment above...you can always remove the patina if you want to.

I happen to really like the patina as it develops over time. (the specific formulation of bronze used will also develop different looking patinas based on the composition of the alloy that is used).

Here are a few examples (the Benarus pieces are CuSn8 bronze and the Anonimo is UNI5275 bronze)...
