I dared myself to buy one of these and then dared myself to buy one of each...

Athaya Vintage 6105 homage,

These are available in four configurations, black or blue, date or non date. I only bought the date models.

The main selling point for me was a true crown at 4:00 so I think these have potential for all kinds of vintage Seiko swaps.

Specs from the Athaya website:
Watch Full specifications :

Case Material & Finishing : SS 316L, Brushed.
Case Dimension : +/- width 44.30 x Lug to Lug tip 48.00 x Total Thickness including glass 13.50
Lug size : 20mm
Glass : Domed Sapphire with Colorless AR Coating.
Bezel : SS 316L, 120 clicks, Unidirectional.
Crown : SS 316L, Screw down Triple o-ring with AV Logo.
Caseback : SS 316L, Screw down with engraved design and AV Logo.
Movement : Seiko Instrument Automatic NH35A Hacked second.
Strap : Rubber Strap with length 140/80 and brushed diver style buckle.
Water Resistant : 200 meter
Dial : Available in Blue & Black sunburst with AV Lamafa design
Hands : Silver AV Lamafa design
Luminova : Swiss C1 Superluminova on Dial, Hands and Bezel pip.
NOTE: the word filters here at 3T won't permit an appropriate comment on the claims of C1 Superluminova, it's not...
Packaging : Athaya Vintage Handmade leather travel case.

anyway here are some quick and dirty shots from this morning...

wrist shot on a nato:

These have a beautiful classic 6105 case shape and crown design, the bezels on all of these modern homages don't seem to have a straight coin edge, instead they taper in towards the insert a bit. I thought I would be disappointed by the not quite Seiko inspired dial but I really like it in person.

There is no point mentioning the lume it's not Luminova, it's dim but visible all night.

The nice 70's style spear diver case back:

Signed crown:

perfectly captured the classic Seiko look and feel of the case:

I added a vintage style buckle to complete the look:

Thanks! Considering the cost of some of the Seikos out today they are reasonably priced and a good value and they also happen to be a lot nicer looking than some of the Seiko's out today too!

Congrats Chris!thumbsup.gif

This Athaya homage is a completely new one on me...first time seeing the brand and this particular model.

Looks great and clearly a great value option for those looking for a 6105 vibe. Reminds me quite a bit of the Smiths PRS-68, which is another 6105 homage. The Athaya definitely has the lowest price, and looks like great bang-for-the-buck.

Did the Athaya go with the sweet 6105 bi-directional ball bearing style bezel or a more conventional bezel? The PRS provides the ball-bearing bi-directional bezel, which I still find very desirable.

Great look to the Athaya in both the Blue and Black dial options! bravo.gif Great looking piece...Enjoy!

...here are a couple pics of my SMITHS for comparison...(the smiths uses the Miyota 9015 movement...and is also priced considerably higher than your Athaya)

Chris
I was going to complain some about the bezel but I sound like such a negative nancy about it, the bezel in the Athaya is a unidirectional 120 click bezel, I like that it's a smooth 120 click and I miss the classic ball bearing 60 click so I remain conflicted...

Thanks for the additional details on the Athaya bezel Chris. thumbsup.gif

I just thought I would ask given the price point (spectacular bang-for-the-buck) I expected a more conventional 60 or 120 click unidirectional bezel to be honest (Nothing wrong with that at all, and great to hear that it's a well done, smooth 120 click bezel). I really do give props to the PRS-68 which offers the classic 60 click ball bearing bi-directional bezel (extremely well done I might add...even more so than my vintage worn and weathered 6105-8110). The price point of the Athaya is a surprise to be honest.

I was wearing the black Athaya this morning while putting together a newly acquired 6105-8000 and thinking the Athaya really is a great balance of modern and vintage, they get a thumbs up from me!

I still would like better lume but since I have started working more with vintage pieces I am much less obsessed with getting a tan from my watch.

I also have confirmed the bezels are sized to fit the genuine seiko inserts, installed one on the black Athaya! I see a superlumed "seikosis" 6105 dial and hands in it's future, should be spectacular to have a modern hacking handwinding 6105.

Hi I just purchased an athaya and it has been in customs for about 4 days in San Francisco. How long did yours take to go through customs? Thanks.

Those Athaya look great so I guess it stays one more "trying week" at the custom: Until something better comes along the way...

Just jocking...

Once I sent a watch from Europe to the US east-coast and it stayed there 1 week in a storage facility before reaching the person: Who knows why, but I guess that sometimes they have packages over the head and some postal facilities might have shortage of workers to process rapidly the whole stuff.
But donĀ“t stress, it should come forward anyway: If not, take contact with them.
Post up pictures when it comesThumbsUp02.gif
