So I'm thinking about purchasing one of two watches, unless of course somebody comes up with something I haven't thought of... Anyway, the two are either the Helson Blackbeard, with the black dial, or an Oris Diver.  Now I guess the problem is do I go with a micro or with a name brand?  I've owned an Oris before and know the fit and finish is wonderful.  I believe they are very undervalued. But at the same time I haven't heard anything negative about Helson and I like the styling of the Blackbeard.   Any opinions for either brand would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I would be down with the Helson all the way, Tony. Why? It is just so much cooler than the Oris IMO and I think Helson is one of the premier micor brands. (If there is such a thing.)

No doubt an Oris would be a high quality watch too, but I have had them and they leave me cold. If you want an Oris go with a used one because they just don't hold their value.

The Blackbeard is a cool watch. Not something you'll see around too much and again, the Helson watches I have are top notch.

But of course JMHO!

Good luck!

Never owned any Helson but owned a blue waved dial TT1 Oris who tired me off even it looked good...
I sold the Oris and never regretted it in fact: Oris isn't for me and them special lugs are not suited to other standard straps...That detail is annoying.
Quality was good but it didn't hook on me even so.

A little hard to answer. I have never owned an Oris but I do own a Helson Gauge. Very happy with it. Paxman might be right about Oris not able to hold its value. Too early to tell about the Helsons though.

good choice...I have never taken a real liking to Oris...I really can't put my finger on it, but there just not that appealing to me, especially at there retail pricing.
