Some of you may have heard me talking about me installing an outdoor furnace and was wondering what I was talking about or, maybe you dont really care. Yesterday I finally got it hooked up and making heat after 2 months of working out in the cold and snow by myself. I did the whole install myself. I just have to do some finish work in my 2 buildings but the house is done. I got my buddies crane and got it set on fri morn and spent the whole weekend getting it hooked up. It even heats my domestic hot water. So far its not using hardly any wood but, the 2 buildings arent on line yet. It will heat 14,000 sq. feet. When its all said and done, it will be heating about 8,000 sq. ft.. I couldnt believe there were no problems with the install. I figured I would have a water leak here or there but its all good. Many people in our area are switching to these for their heat because they are cheap and effecient heat. I have 50 acres of trees so, firewood is no problem. So, I have to fire it twice a day and cut firewood but, in the long run, it will save me about 7 grand a year. Here are some pics.![]() ![]() ![]()

One advantage to living in the country. This is a small town and at times I wish I lived farther out and other times closer in. Something like that would be so cool. Way to go. ;)

Oh yea, You can roast mashmallows, hot dogs.... On the darker side, The local funeral director brought his car out for service and he saw the furnace and the wife was joking and told him we were starting a crematorium because the furnace is so big. It will hold a 5 ft. long log. I dont think he thought it was too funny. mcwright wrote: Can I roast marshmallows with it too? hearteyes.gif

That's a fantastic alternative for heating. Being a suburbanite, its not an option here, but I do see a lot of these going in around the area. What you gonna do with that extra $7K a year?

Thanks Skip, Many of the towns here are also enacting ordinances banning them from in town. Some people abuse themby burning garbage or tires in them then the neighbors get angry and complain then they are banned. Skipdawg wrote: One advantage to living in the country. If I paid someone to cut the wood my wife would probably take the chainsaw to me after what we spent on the furnace. By the way, it will do me some good to be working in the woods. Help me get back in shape. I get short of breath easy any more.
