Hello everyone. I have been lurking both here and over at WUS for some time, on and off for a few years really. I bought my first diver, a Seiko something or other, back in the early 70's. I used it as a workhorse for everything from being on time for appts. to surfing and free diving for abs and bugs until it died, then bought another. In the early 80's, I bought a brand I had never heard of, a Heuer quartz 2000. I still wear that watch today. It has been a faithful and worry free companion for a long time, needing only the occasional service to keep running accurately. The blessing (or curse) of the internet is that if you look for stuff you will find it. As my 60th birthday approaches, I started thinking seriously about getting a new watch. A watch to celebrate a lifetime of playing in the water. A quality mechanical diver. Yep, that's what I want. I first looked at the usual suspects. Rolex, nice, but way out of my price range. Omega or Breitling? Also really nice, and I could probably swing it, but there might be a high price to pay on the home front. You guys do know about wife acceptance factor? Of course you do. So that left the new, unheard of, (by me anyway) boutique brands. I read threads, and reviews, opinions and looked at watch sites. I decided that I really liked the looks and build of the Benarus 1 KM in beed blasted stainless. But there was a problem. I was late to the party and looking at the Benarus site, it appeared that they were sold out of the watch. I decided to email Steve L at Benarus US just to see if anything else like the 1 KM was coming along, and he said he thought there might be one or two watches still with Ralf in Germany. So I emailed Ralf. Sure enough, there were two still available. Now I just have to wait for it to be delivered. It is hard to wait. Mike

Greetings from another denizen of PDX metro. These boutique brands will get my business soon. I've had the pleasure of seeing a number of them first hand and they are impressive. Hopefully your wife will approve! :P Sooner or later, she will come around to the appeal of a watch collection, as my wife has.

Greetings, Mike. The boutique brands offer great value. Each brand has a certain look that can be found throughout its lineup. A Korsbek is a Korsbek and much unlike a Halios, which will never be confused with a Zinex, which couldn't be more different from a Benarus, and so on. You made a great choice. Enjoy. Joe
