Hey Hucks.  I haven't read anyone else's replys yet an just thought I'd give you my thoughts.  First, stop feeling bad man.  I think your reaction was appropriate and I'd have done the same thing.

I own a Rottweiler (a badly abused rescue) who gets along great with people, children as well, but dislikes other dogs.  I realize as her master, it's my responsibility to ensure she doesn't harm other dogs.  The owner of the other dog was 100% at fault in that situation.  She should not have made it necessary for you to kick her dog.  Her dog should have been leashed and you should have been allowed to enjot the park without fear of attack.

You and I seem to have in common the fact we are frequently in conflict with irresponsible people who think the world revolves around them alone.  I get into it all the time with knot heads who can't think.  I frequently feel bad afterwords too...but I get over it in a short while.  Don't give it another thought man.

I'm glad your puppy is okay, at least physically.  You might consider taking her to some group obedience classes where she'll be exposed to other dogs in a controlled environment.  That might increase her confidence and help her to become less fearful.  I've done that to help my dog get over her fear of othet dogs. (She reacts aggressively toward other dogs because she is fearful.)  I also take her up to the local PetSmart and just sit outside and let her watch other dogs come and go.  I bring some water, dog treats and a chair and we just sit there and watch the canine world go by.  This has really been helpful.  It costs nothing and the PetSmart are fine with us sitting there.  Socialization is really important for young dogs.

Good luck you you sir and don't feel bad for protecting you dog.

Mr. Bill
