Thank you both - that helps. Unfortunately it's on the bracelet, so the "squeeze strap" option is foreclosed. If I ever do get it out, I'm switching to springbars - I've seen at least one Panerai fan site selling them with slotted ends to fit 24" lugs, so that they look like these same tubes & screws, but you can switch them in and out easily.
