I just got this vintage Longines (scroll down) today from eBay PowerSeller "cushioncase" (John), who is probably the premier seller of restored vintage watches on eBay. This extra-long solid gold Longines was made the year Hitler invaded Poland. The serial number on the movement dates it to 1939. The case is a "streamliner," which was popular in the late 1930s as aviation played a larger role in Western culture, and streamlined airplanes showed their influence in other designs, including watches. Although Bogie did not have an endorsement contract with Longines during his lifetime (1899-1957), he did ink one later: :D Perhaps my Longines is the watch he wore in this photo...he looks about 40 here (well...almost): ![]() This is a Longines print ad from 1938: ![]() Here is the Longines I picked up at the Post Office today (Saturday). I've been looking for a Longines just like this one for a long time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry...I got a little self-indulgent with the photos! Mea culpa.
