Beautiful time piece...and as a bit of history, I am sure that everyone knows that the 1st Infantry Division spearheaded the invasion at Normandy Beach and the 16th Infantry Regiment spearheaded the division. This was really nothing new as the 1st Infantry Division and the 16th Infantry Regiment spearheded all of the European Theater landings at Tripoli in N Africa, Sicily and Normandy...only this time, the Regiment lost over 1600 men in the first few hours!
Contrary to popular opinion, the Normandy invasion was poorly planned and even more poorly executed...the Navy's failures cost the lives of thousands!

It's thrue that a lot of men died there: Seems like the strategy was to overflow the German fire from the bunkers with massive man attack. We can just be glad that adolph didn't believe in an attack there and didn't reinforce the defence on this shores at this time.
I was there once many years ago as my mother is from Normandie: The bunkers and the anti-tank giant iron crosses are still standing. The beach is long to cross, specialy in a situation like that I can guess....
