Choosing a watch with your requirements is a daunting task because there are so many out there. It's like choosing a wife: has to be pretty;), should be really good, appreciates and improves with age. will last a lifetime and best of all, should be something you can NEVER part with I can only think of 2 or 3: #1 check out the Zenith brand and go for the Elite line. Zenith Elite has the automatic and handwind versions. This line is very understated in elegance, flattish and goes well from the office to jeans and vice versa. I have 2 Elites and they are so darned accurate and always a joy to wind. Because they are very flat, they go well inside the long sleeved shirt's cuff. #2 check out IWC and go for the Portuguese line. They have an entry model Portuguese that is time and date only. Legendary, as they say, is the IWC Pellaton spring. Sized at 42mm, with an amazing milk white dial and blued hands, they are always a spectacular timepiece that never ever fades. By the way, those 2 lines are so below the "faker's" radar that not many people know what you'll have strapped on. But for the truly discerning few who know their watches, you might raise a few eyebrows. Best of all, they fit the bill at south of US$4,000...give or take some loose change. If you want something that's off the beaten track, try out Dubey & Schaldenbrand or even an entry model Cricket. These 2 are also very good and worth every $. D&S uses vintage movements. They might have the Venus and deSchild movements for some of their creations but for sure, will be higher up the price point scale. Lastly as a dress watch, and this is only my opinion --- they should be thin/flatish and in leather reptile straps. This flat profile is to allow a subtle peep of the watches from under the cuff depending on certain arm movements. And if you are a purist for dress watches, like me Hope this helps.
