I cut my leather with a type of blade-knife and use a plexiglass plate as guide. To get regular stiching patern, a marking wheel is great and I punch the holes before stitching offcourse.
I can't explain all because my english isn't good in those practical areas...
It's just a hobby to me and I mostly made straps for myself: It is not hard, you have to be patient and methodic.
I've learned from the net and myself after some prototypes.
