I did not know that........very interesting....I can tell you that when we switched on the Xenon lights on those tank guns...............nothing could hide from us!!!!  Come to think of it, I believe the Xenon searchlight was originally mounted on the M48 Patton Tank.  (The precursor to the M60 MainBattle Tank....we also used the M48 in Vietnam as it gave us a way to use up the surplus and keep the M60's in Europe)  Above the main gun was a 1 million candle-power Xenon searchlight. This light had both a white light and an infrared mode.  It was boresighted with the main gun and gunsights so that it could be used to illuminate a target at night.
