I pose this query because I can't seem to easily find 20mm PVD or DLC buckles, whether pre V, GPF, sparta or thumbnail. I need 20mm black buckles for some of my 22mm straps that narrow down to 20mm. There are a lot of 20s but they come in polished or brushed steel only.
Years ago, I saw a gunsmith in an Asian country strip down a 45 of all its finish and then saw him throw it into a cauldron of boiling blueing liquid. Some time later, the entire slide, receiver, barrel, stabilizer bar etc and all the parts were retrieved. They were all now deep, dark blue, almost shiny black.
My suspicion is that it can be done for ss buckles. If the blueing process is good enough for coloring guns, they should be good enough for "less friction" and "less action" buckles, right?
If somebody can confirm this, next time I hit that country, I'll be off to the gunsmith with a pile of buckles
