I tried two concoctions I have in my gunroom last night on some s/s buckles. Both rely on a chemical rather than heat process to effect the darkening of the metal. It was a 100% failure. It works well on gunmetal due to the high carbon content I guess.
The heat based blueing process might work on s/s, but I have no experience with that.
