Tom, I'd be glad to share some info. This is the Steinhart NAV-B in vintage steel which is really a bead blasted, gun metal gray type of color. There is a slight to medium gade matt texture to it. It's Swiss-made and on-board is an ETA2824-2 auto; hacks and winds sweetly. Lume is provided by Superluminova C3. William is right: you can see the lume from the moon! At night, you can see the very long second hand sweep the dial and you get an eerie feeling because there's so much lume even on just the second hand. Lume lasts up to about 4am/5am after a full day's trip on the wrist. I sleep with a tiny light at a distance and get to enjoy this toy's lume a lot. The dial is technically mocha brown but I see it as a tobacco brown more than mocha.
This is not a screw-down crown but a simple push-in, Pilot type, much like the IWC's Big Pilot. Crystal is super clear and sharp sapphire with AR on the inside only. Very easy to photograph despite a slight bulge on the crystal. You won't need a polarizer to shoot this baby's face. Lug width is 22mm and other dimensions are 47mm case diameter with about 56.5mm or almost 57mm lug-to-lug distance. It's a decent 14.2mm or 14.3mm thick as measured on my made in China caliper. I haven't really timed the power reserve but I think it can tick for 40 to 42 hours if left undisturbed.
Strap is not the original very supple and very soft Steinhart. I replaced it with a 5mm thick SteveO in mahogany/tobacco brown. Thick, fat nylon stitches (my request was not linen but nylon) are in gray to pick up the gun metal gray hue of the case.
I bought this watch to complement my Debaufre' NavB which has a black dial and is in polished and brushed steel. Like many of you, I am OC when it comes to certain things and I usually buy in bunches. Another reason I bought this is because I really love pilot watches and the IWC flagship Big Pilot is too far up there..........and lately, has not been getting good reviews. This Steinhart seemed to be a good alternative particularly with it's uncommon finish and color.
I'd recommend this for a collection anyday but just note if your left cuff isn't adjusted to take a watch this "wide", you'll have some challenges on the laptop and on the steering wheel. Otherwise, if you're always in short sleeves, this has lots of ownership value and testosterone.. Feels very good and very sleek on the wrist.
