Dan, I agree that sapphire is very nice, but to me, not having it is not a deal breaker. Mineral and synthetic sapphire have the same optical qualities and offsetting advantages/disadvantages. Sapphire is less susceptible to scratching, but shatters more easily while Mineral is just the opposite. My personal experience is that (in 50 some years of watch wearing), I have never scratched a mineral crystal, but I have shattered a sapphire. I even have one 40 year old watch (bought new and worn daily in extreme conditions) that has its original acrylic crystal......and yes, it has been polished out several times. I guess the bottom line is, would a sapphire crystal be worth the $110 upkick mention somewhere earlier in the thread. Personally, I can't even begin to believe that's the real price when Bill Yao can have a custom made sapphire crystal manufactured for the Seiko Monster's and retail it for $60. jmho
