well it certainly makes it easier for strap changes. I hadn't noticed on mine and I have the leather on now, so I will put it on the steel later today and check it out. Maybe I just didn't think it was a problem and just didn't notice. I will check the others as well and see if there is different tolerances. We did have the factory cut the notches in the backs of the steel bracelet so that if you used this bracelet on a different watch like a Seiko 007 that does not have drilled lugs then the bracelet would not get stuck on that other watch. Maybe there was some steel shaved off when they had to modify the backs or the end links. This adjustment to the end links is what caused the delay in the Remora production and was done to the bracelets after they were finished. Also it should be noted that I have shipped about 50 Remoras and this is the first I have heard a complaint about the .4 mm gap, if in fact others have a gap as well. At this point I do not think this is a problem to call it a defect.
