I guess that there is a sandwich of 2 crystals who are rotating independently: One holding the minute hand , one for the hour hand.
The crystals may have teeth on them perimeters who are connected to the hour/minutes wheels actioned by the movement...
That would explain why there is a big axis in the center: Both crystal dials are rotating around it
But yes, +1 on this being a sound explanation from the Sheriff. Guessing that there won´t be any asian knock-off`s made of this mvt any time soon, hehe.
