I have already decided not say anything, but would like to know what other watch collectors would have done if this situation presented itself.

I know someone who received a Rolex Submariner Date recently as a present. It was given to him by a parent who has not had much contact with him in a long time. He was very surprised and happy to receive such a gift. When he handed it to me to take a look at, it felt rather light and unsubstantial. Now, I do not have a Submariner. I do have the Tudor Black Bay, and while it is not even close to being a Submariner, the watch has a heft to it, a definite solid feel, this did not. My brother-in-law has a Datejust, and that has the same feel as my Tudor, it just feels solid. I did not look for the crown etching at the 6:00 position, and I did not unscrew the crown to see the crown seal. I was going to ask to see it again, but was persuaded not to by others.

Did I do the right thing by keeping quiet, or should I have said something? My main reason for not saying anything was not to hurt his feelings, and it could actually be real.
