When I get a minute, I will have to think about a specific watch model a little more, but I might be tempted to go with a kinetic quartz or solar quartz powered model over a 100% mechanical model that I would go with during normal times (mostly due to the other digital instruments/toys you might have as features with such a watch).

Not sure I'd want to be fully reliant on battery powered quartz watches (ie. watches without a kinetic or solar charging feature).

Oh yes, the topic raises an interesting question. One can actually remove the word "zombie" and replace it with "any survival situation that will be prolonged". I used the word "zombie" just to make it a bit more fun since its such a popular myth in today's society.

I could not answer the question myself in the first post. I need to think about is also.

Sure, one might be able to find "new" watches later as one searches the remains of civilization, and batteries for quartz movement.

Seiko watches with Spring Drive is another alternative, but not easy  to get your hands on. One have to remember that survival is the first priority, so looting the local AD´s might not be the first thing one wants to do, even if would be a WIS´s wet dream.

Material is another component that might play a part. Metal, plastic or ceramic?
A big heavy watch or keep it lightweight?
What complications would be of good use on a watch during this time period?
Will it function properly in cold or hot weather? One never knows were one might end up.

Would you take your chances with a well known so called "bulletproof" mechanical movement?

Share your decision and your thoughts about why you choose "the" watch. But i want to emphasize that this is all a made up scenario. So take it as it is, a fun brainteaser.
