Thanks again for your continued assistance, but I am still having no luck. I have no trouble getting the stem to release entirely from the movement. I do have trouble getting it to go back in though. I have worked with this for several days and can find no particular pattern or trick to what makes the stem go back in. I have tried holding down the release button as I re-insert the stem. I have tried inserting it without holding down the button. Sometimes one works, and sometimes it is the other way around. As I said, there is no pattern that I can discern which explains when the crown will click back in. Regardless, at no time will it reengage the movement of the hands or the date mechanism. The stem will click into all three positions, but in all three it winds the watch. This seems weird to me, since the watch should wind on only the first click stop and not all three. I had no idea getting the watch back together would be so hard, or I would have taken it to a watchmaker in the first place. I keep hoping that I am missing something simple and obvious, but I don't know what it could be. I am willing to give it one more go before I throw in the towel. Further recommendations will be much appreciated, if you can think of any.
