Markus, what is a "standard case opening ball" and how is it used on the 1963? I've never seen anything like that before.
OK, here you go:
This thing is roughly about the size of a Tennis ball and made from soft friction plastic/rubber. You just have the watch either in the palm of one hand (or in a case holder) and press the ball against the case back with the other hand, start turning - and off it comes. Opens just about every screw back, including Rolex, Seagull or other "special backs". Absolutely no scratches.
Only if the backs were screwed in with high torque one really needs a wrench.
This thing is really cool. I must admit, I forgot about them until I saw the one on that keyboard. I will get me one for sure.
The ball was featured on TZ some time ago (maybe 1.5 or 2 years?), but the search function on TZ is crap, so I can not find the post again.
