I lend my support to the Ocean 7 people and to those buyers who want to bring this good looking lump of metal into their lives.
I do think that Omega will be peeved. But on the other hand, if the watch is affordable (and what do we call affordable these days, under say $2500USD, under $1000, can we get one for $500 that is truly a 600m watch?) then many more people can get the "look" if not the original watch. It is not like the company is trying to pass of their watch as "the" Ploprof - it is just an alternative from another watchmaker.
With Ploprofs going from 2500 to 5000 to 7000 and now more like 10 to over 15000 USD for a minter - how many can ever enjoy owning something like the original? I felt like I had to "cash out" of the Ploprof experience at the top of that price range, because the watch I bought for a few hundred dollars in the 1970's was now worth so much, that it was starting to lose its special appeal - I knew it was different, but now so many have tried to demand them that the supply has dried up. What is the point of having a minter that you can't wear? It is like having a Ferrari and no keys!
My only hope is that if Ocean 7 go ahead and make the "homage", then the quality of the watch should make it a match for the original - or maybe even better. The original stainless casing was notoriously easy to dent (no - not scratch - actually dent, and in particular the corners top and bottom outside the screw-down crown). Maybe the Ocean 7 model would be much nicer with a beadblasted finish like I see on so many of the great watches on this site.
But please Ocean 7 - make the price reasonable and give the consumer some real value for the money we spend. If they do all that - I would buy one.
