I wouldn't worry about the myth of "shock" thru activity with automatics.  I have been playing golf, tennis skiing, etc. for years with no damage.  As a reverse view, why don't people think that shock to a delicate electronic movement might cause failure.

If you want something that isn't going to break and you won't really have to worry about, simply get a hearty Seiko diver like the Monster or any other SKX series...they also make very fine (and hardy) quartz models if you still wanna go that way!
