The business model for credit cards has changed over the years, from one where they made the bulk of their money off of normal use, to a model where they make the bulk of their money off of fees that barely existed 20 years ago.  The fee structures for most CCs is appalling.  I got into trouble once about 7 years ago when I was unemployed and since then I've sworn off the things. I have one card (which I do not permit myself to have a balance over $500 on) and that's it.  Generally, I pay cash for everything.  If it's not in a bank account, then I don't spend it -- end of story.  I'm through with being sucked dry by crooked banks.
