The buckle is very comfortable. It looks huge, but I've found it unobtrusive, and I notice it far less than (flatter) Panerai-style buckles I've worn before. One caveat on that, though, I have very big wrists - about 8.5 inches in circumference - and I think the proportions are just right for me.
Second, yes and no. It's very practical in that it's infinitely adjustable. It's extremely easy to add or subtract a bit of size whenever you want and to whatever extent you want. But -- and maybe this is just a ``break-it-in'' kind of thing -- so far, it's hard to put on. The strap is a tight fit through the buckle, and it's difficult to put it on with one hand.
Lastly, despite all that, I would highly recommend it. The strap itself is very comfortable. Kind of a rubbery feel, but it also feels tough as nails at the same time. It's kind of hard to explain. The strap itself is nice and flexible, and the stitching is very high quality. As a unit, the strap and buckle are a great match. I'm really enjoying them.
