From reading older posts on this forum, I see it is an ongoing struggle of choices, choices, choices..... I'm off on a 3 week trip on the weekend. First stop Philadelphia, then spending a few days at the Hershey Fall meet in PA. After that on to Germany for two weeks. As usual, the question bodes: What ticker to take?:? My GMT II seems the logical choice, but I also have a very interesting dual time big face watch from Eastern origin that I've used before. Called a Schaffer, it boasts an automatic movement with date, day and hour complications. The small unit on the left is a quartz movement. Although bulky, the watch wears very well and keeps excellent time. Of course the Rolex is the ultimate (I don't have any other dual time / GMT watches) but there is no need to impress anyone on this trip (leisure), and there is always the niggling thought of losing such a piece..... I'm also picking up two watches I bought recently, and kept for me in PA. One is a Vostok Europe Red Square (my first Russian!) and the other a vintage rectangular 14k white gold omega. Can't wait! Attached, a quick cellphone pic of my Schaffer for reference. Attachment: 01102008394.jpg (Downloaded 114 times) |

What better excuse...take a not GMT watch and scour the Euro watch shops for a GMT to bring home...the VAT is refundable! |

The very wide strap seems to stabilise it well. Once it warms up to your arm, it feels great! I actually just bought it as a conversation piece, but it wears so well that I might take it on the 3 week trip. I get more compliments about this watch than most others! Surprisingly it is very accurate for an Asian timepiece. |

Forget taking the GMT, take a nice comfortable sports watch like a seiko diver...no worries. Find yourself a nice german watch store and grab something way out there....modern, haus...or find a nice Martin Braun. |

The GMT Master II it is. After wearing it for the last few days to help me decide, I fell in love with this watch all over again.....smile25.gif I even took out the packaging material, tags and booklet while renewing my vows...:) I will report back when I return towards the month end. |

Greetings from Philadelphia, PA! After 32 hours, I'm in Reading, PA. Will try to visit the Hamilton watch factory tomorrow. The Master is behaving impeccably. |

So, I'm back after a 3 week globetrot. So much to catch up on at work, home and play! I really had a great time - first in PA, and then in Germany, Holland and Belgium. Of course I saw a lot of nice watches! Unfortunately my trip coincided with the worldwide slump in the economy, which resulted in our currency weakening drastically against the major currencies. My trip was 25% dearer as a result........ Well, I did pick up a few pieces to bring back. I will report on them one by one later on. The GMT Master II performed superbly. I have never worn this watch for 3 weeks solid before, so I can safely say it was a dream. It is so user friendly when adjusting times across the zones - especially the feature allowing you to adjust backwards too - with the date reversing if necessary. Only two complaints (make that 3...) - lume is VERY poor at night (I wore it 24/24) -gaining about 35 sec /day, so I will have to have it regulated. - Most people doubt the originality of a Rolex nowadays, due to the number of fakes about... I took some "in situ" pics of the piece on the trip. The "Pepsi" watch photographed during the Hershey Fall Meet of Antique automobiles; Pictured during the cross Atlantic flight from London to Philly; Pictured at Terminal 1 at Heathrow.
