I bought this WWI Waltham a couple weeks ago off eBay. It came equipped with an ugly little (10mm) vintage bracelet that I immediately replaced with this bund strap from England. So, vintage watches often carry special meaning, right? Well, here's the special meaning (by pure happenstance) with this one: The Waltham movement was made in 1918, the year my dad was born. The custom-made English case (by Dennison) was crafted in 1921, the year my mom was born. It so happens that my mom's second career (for 30+ years) was selling sterling silver at a snooty jewelry store. The 1921 case on this watch is made of sterling silver. Just as I am the merging of my parents' traits, so is this Waltham. An added benefit is that it's very accurate - - just like me! yahoo.gif ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (The serial number of the Waltham movement coincides with 1918 in Waltham production records, and the "W" hallmarked inside the case is the code for 1921. The Lion hallmark is for sterling silver [0.925 purity], and the anchor represents the assay office in Birmingham, England.) Last edited on Sat Mar 7th, 2009 05:39 pm by pacifichrono |

That's a really good looking watch! I don't normally go for Roman numerals, but they look great on that model. |

Thanks, guys. That strap is really comfortable, too. I did a little regulating of the timing these past two days and it's running very, very close now. :D |

Man...you get the nicest vintage pieces. Wish I could do some, but I am so ignorant as to the vintage market, I'd lose my shirt! |

Despite all I've read I still can't seem to remember all of it when I go looking at vintage pieces. Tom, you should consider setting up a quick reference guide for us vintagely challenged. Very nice looking acquisiton |
