OK, So after reading a number of posts and seeing what a lot of you have said about your own watches I wanted to know how long have most of you been collecting and how many watches do you currently own? I would also like to know if you have a type of collection like just diver watches, chronos, automatics etc. |

Well if you start with a meager quartz collection in the beginning about 20 years give or take. I've had over 100 quartz over the years and over 100 mechanical watches too (auto and cranker). I've gifted some sold some and lost a few over the years. Almost all my quartz are gone now. I key in on divers allot and have about a dozen Chronos too. ;) I just flipped quite a few this past Spring. But last count if I recall was 95 in the barn and 1 on the wrist. :cool: LOL :D |

I started collecting quartzies for 6 or 7 years and then when I got really serious, shifted to mechanicals for about the past 19 years. All told, that's 26 years. I'm not sure how many watches I already have but starting about 10 years ago, I would buy 2 or 3 major pieces a year and a few minor ones in between the majors. I also buy for my wife, though not as many and not as often; and for my sons whom I hope will also collect watches when they are more mature, more responsible and maybe stable enough. After taking a mental stock of what I have, I'd say 50% of my watches are divers ( I dive 5 days a week.....on my desk  ), a quarter would be chronos, a few GMTs and the balance would be "times and dates" only. I only collect about 7 brands so that I ride and mature with the brand's development and this also forces me to research the brand and keep pace with its innovations and progress. The few exceptions I make outside these brands are for unique pieces to add new blood to my collection lest my own development stunts and sputters.While I collect some of the marquee brands, believe me Seiko is one of my all time favorites. I spend longer times oggling Seikos than other brands at the watch sore. You'll never go wrong with a well-selected Seiko. |

Thank you guys for this bit of information. I started a while back but did not know how to proceed let alone what direction I was going to go in for my collection. So I will say that I am a very junior collector and now that I can find watches that I like that are under 1K I feel like I can really get my collection going. I am partial to automatics but have a couple of quartz on hand. This will definitely give me some direction and understanding of how I will proceed in my collection. I started with vintage...pre 1960 about 15 years ago...built that up to about 150 - 175 watches, plus railroad grade pocket watches, built that up to about 40 pieces. Started modern watches about 4 years ago, mostly divers and started selling off my vintage a couple years ago, along with the pocket watches....right now all the vintage and pocket are gone. Right now my modern collecti9on sits at about 115 watches. |

My focus was collecting American Brands such as Lord Elgin,Bulova,Waltham,Hamilton and Gruen of the 1940's and 50's. Then focussed my attention towards Swiss Brands such as Omega,Mido,Jaeger-LeCoultre and Tudor,just to name a few. 28 years later I have redirected my attention to pocketwatches of the early to mid 20th Century. Jeez, I fell like a whipper snapper here! I've been interested in Watches all my life and have owned and given away dozens of different watches since! About 3years ago I got into replica watches as I was attracted to Panerai and couldn't believe how much an original cost! Now I don't own a single replica but have some 30 watches, including a couple of pocket watches (a Waltham from around 1900 and a WWII Goverment isue Omega). Today I'm wearing my MoonWatch :-) Rob |

I realise now that I have always loved a nice looking watch! However it was not untill I retired 2 years ago that I found the time to become a collector, I wish I hadn't thrown away all my old discarded watches. I have managed to collect around 25 watches so far though I cannot see what direction to take. I just love all types of watches.perfect.gif |

I'm a baby at this watch thing. I'm not keen on anything in particular(divers, aviators, gmt's, etc). I mostly just buy what I like and hopefully like what I buy. It all started last year on my motorcycle roadtrip through Europe. Went to Luzern and walked into Bucherer's big store there. Thankfully I didn't know what I know now. I woulda walked out the front door with spending a lot more money. But I walked out the door with a watch that I don't wear anymore. :( But I'm doing it all again in a few weeks, this time to Geneva. Now I have 8 watches that i own and 5 that i wear. think it's about time to start selling some. |

I've always had a fleeting fascination with watches -- primarily from an aesthetic standpoint. But at some point back in my college days, I just didn't like having anything stuck on my wrist, so I stopped wearing one. A little over a year ago, I decided to try again. I got an inexpensive quartz to see if I would mind it on my wrist and the rest is history. My wife and I have worked out a rule that I keep only as many watches as can fit in my 10-watch drawer. So I now have 11 watches. ;) I credit my first mechanical watch, the Orsa Silver Surfer for really pulling me back into WIS-dom. And that's why I keep it as my avatar. |

My collection is a mix of quartz, auto and some vintage manuals. In all, I currently have approximately 30 watches. Most of them are 40mm or larger, with the exception of the vintage pieces. |

I am very new.. started collecting about 2 yrs ago.. I have always loved watches and I am a big diver fan but do not have any divers my first will be the megaladon :) I love automatics and 3 of my 4 are autos. I have the Gevril San Bernadino Xoskeleton Barracuda Furious Oceanaunt Spada/ just date window and not the chrono My Arbutus from Skip :) and I also have my old Fossil. I don't know whether you would call it collecting or accumulating, but I have been a watch "fan" most of my life. For year I subsisted on 5 or so high end watches (Rolex, Brietlin, Cartier) and then about 6 or 7 years ago, I got into the fun of less expensive timepieces from Siko to DOXA. My current "collection" is in the 75 watch range. |

I had worn watches for most of my life but really wasn't interested in them other than using them to tell time. It changed about a year ago when I became enamored with a Rado Ceramica. I bought that and then a Citizen calibre 2100 a few months later. This past May, I decided to get a mechanical watch, an Oris F1 Chronograph '08, and the flood gates opened as far as watch collecting goes. I have bought 10 more watches since the Oris and still have a Benarus Megalodon on order. And there are still plenty of watches that I'm interested in. |

hearteyes.gifI've worn a watch daily for more than 39 years but I didn't start collecting them until last year! yahoo.gif Although, I've been very interested in watches for at least the last 25 years. My humble collection is made up of my older Marathon (hand cranker), Seiko chrono and Tag Heuer 2000 chrono both of which are quartzies. My newer watches are all automatics and they are comprised of Seiko, Tag Heuer, Debaufre and Doxa. woohoo.gif At present I have 8 watches in my collection and I would love to add a few more. My next watch will be a Pilot/Nav-B style watch which I hope to acquire before the end of the year. :):):) After the Nav-B, I would like to add a nice GMT style watch to my collection. I don't believe I'll ever have a large collection because I have to keep my wife happy. hearteyes.gifhearteyes.gifhearteyes.gif My new hobby of watch collecting has lead me to realize that there are some wonderful craftsmen out there who make some amazing watch straps!  Well, I have purchased two awesome examples from Jeanna at Stone Creek Straps one of which is currently being made. So, in addition to buying some new watches, I also like to change their look by replacing the stock strap/bracelet with a custom strap. I dig being a member of 3T for many reasons, one of which is I get to see watches I will never be able to own. First off I haven’t counted my pieces, ever since someone asked me and when I said maybe 3 dozen, my wife piped up and said 46. Seems she likes to count for me so why should I bother, I can just ask her…. I’ve been collecting for over twenty years now specializing in early 30’s to late 50’s American pieces. I also have a small collection of later pieces including a Tag, Rado, RGM and a Chinese Flying Turbo to name a few. |

Ok, so after catching up here I noticed that I did not mention my information. So, I will say that I have loved watches for over 30 years but id not really start purchasing any real pieces until a couple of years ago. A Daniel Mink flip watch is what started it all for me back in the late 80's.:) Because I have way too man interests I only have 9 watches at his time. Three of which are divers. I would like to add a GMT, moonphase and a grail watch soon but the wife needs to be kept happy. So this will have to wait a bit.  Thanks to all who have participated this was good info to find out. |
