My wife and I will be having our 2nd wedding anniversary later this month. I've told her that I want to get her an iPhone as my gift to her as she has been wanting one for a long while now. She has asked me what I want from her and after much thought and careful deliberation, along with discussing it with her, I asked to borrow some of her credit to buy a watch. She agreed without hesitation  . Now the problem I have is deciding which watch. I've narrowed it down to a few choices. 1st: a gently pre-loved Rolex Submariner, 2nd: An Omega Planet Ocean in 45.5mm case, or 3rd: An Omega Planet Ocean in 42mm case. I'm having a hard time deciding which one. I'm familiar with the sub and the larger PO, but haven't any hands on experience with the smaller PO.because my local AD doesn't have one in stock. I'm looking for a little guidance from my WIS family here at 3T. Pros vs Cons of each and whatever else you guys might think of. I'm also adding a poll to help with feedback, so please vote. I would steer clerar of Omega...had my P.O just a month and it is in service already and I won't be seeing it for up to 12 weeks I was told! ....Omega is not the brand it was 10 years ago before Swatch bought them  ...on the other hand my Breitling and Rolie are running flawlessy! hand6.gif |

If you can swing a lightly used Sub do it. Should be a great anniversary. The POs aren't calling to me as much as a classic Sub does... And O, sorry to hear about the P.O. I was checking them out while in Chicago and for some reason they weren'talking to me in person. I much prefer the classic Seamasters of yore with the dependable calibre 1120 (2892). |

They don't usually have a large selection of subs, but almost always have one or two. And yeah, it should be a great anniversary. It'll be my first one home. |

I tried on a PO at my local shop just the other day and I gotta have one! It's a 42mm and it's going to have orange in it somewhere. What's wrong with your PO that it needs to be serviced? Sub is a timeless watch on the other hand...... tough choice |

After seeing the documentary about Tom Bolt on an earlier 3-T post. I agree with his statement,that you can make a profit on a Rolex Submariner if you decide to sell it later on. Advice: If you do decide to pounce on an used Submariner,make sure that you get one with the box and full documentation. I love my Omega...Seamaster 2254.50 on mesh. It's an awesome watch. One person in the repair shop doesn't mean that the brand is down the tubes. Can't go wrong with any of the three, though I'd look an the used sub or the P.O. 42. Erik |

But I love Breitling. Shoot I have 4 and running great. ;) |

Happy Anniversary, Murph J! My advice is as solid as most of the gents on this thread have already given: go Rolex Sub. You will never go wrong. Yes, it may appreciate over time faster than many other brands out there but the joy of owning it is that the Sub is just simply virtually indestructible even if you purposely try to break it down, you simply can't. So reliable, so accurate and so much a true classic. I gave up on Omega about 5 or 6 years ago. They don't seem to make them as good as they used to and I can only conclude that the vintage or older ones are simply just better made. |

First off I want to say  to everybody for the well wishes. This will be our second official year of marriage, but our first anniversary together. I spent 95% of our first year deployed. Second...It seems most everybody is leaning towards the Submariner and to tell the truth, I've kinda been leaning that direction too. I went and looked at some second-hand ones today, along with a black dial GMT Master II and I'm really itching towards the Submariner. My wife wants to see both the Sub and the GMT to get a better idea of what I'm talking about. I'll probably end up letting her decide. Truth be told I can be happy with either one. Thanks for everybodys thoughts and opinions . |
