The J-Springs Automatic diver I bought for my brother last Christmas has gone over well.  He wears it religiously, and has grown found of automatic movements.

That said, he has come to me asking about purchasing a second watch for his collection. This time he wants a "dressy" style watch for high level meetings with his customers.

He's given me the following criteria;

1.  $500 or under

2.  Non-circular case.  In other words any shape but round.

3.  Thinner than his J-Springs diver to allow a better fit beneath his shirt sleeves

4.  Must have a bracelet.

5.  No skeleton watches

6. Automatic movement

Any thoughts?  I've narrowed down a few Orients for him to review, but am I missing any others?

Thanks 3T!

I think you can suggest Ball or Zeno to your brother. They have some entry models that will fit his price points.;)

Vostok Europe has some square ones, Invicta probably does too though I personally don't pay much attention to them.  Alpha has some square ones too or, he could go vintage.

I think, strictly speaking, a dress watch should be found on a strap, preferably an exotic. I think you have a good thing going with the Orients, and I like the CWs shown, but if you can dig one of these up I think its a great watch for a little dough.

IWI has some models that will suit you..  The 2824 powered marine diver is under 500$ and to add a bracelet would still fall under..pictured is my UNITAS driven one

Nice watch but misses on two stated points:face4.gif

2.  Non-circular case.  In other words any shape but round.

3.  Thinner than his J-Springs diver to allow a better fit beneath his shirt sleeves

Hey I agree completely on the sleeves. I only wear then when forced to. Makes wearing a MONGO watch a non-issue...:dude:

I've had my eye on the Exploding Scroll Case Deco for quite awhile from International Watchman.

Second the CW Henley in one of its many permutations.

Watchery also has some very dapper Hamilton Boultons going to a good price.  http://www.thewatchery.com/Hamilton/Watch/H13511753

After looking at lots and lots of options, my brother's requirements seemed to have crept a bit.  Rookie!

Don't ask me how, but he's landed on a Seiko Premier Kinetic as his choice.

http://www.seikowatches.com/products/premier/kinetic_p.html

It's a lot of money for a Seiko, and I'm disappointed that he didn't go with a real automatic (because this is really all about what I want!).  He says it was the silver face and sub-dials that sold him.

Anyone know of an automatic that might compete with this style Kinetic? He hasn't purchased anything yet.

If not, thanks again for the recommendations. I might be picking up one of those Christopher Ward's for myself!

"Automatic that might compete with this style Kinetic?" Easy. The Lange & Sohne Big Date series of Lange 1....but that's just for style (minus the sub counters). For the price, add another zero to the budget and multiply by 4subtlelaugh.gif.

That Kinetic is ok but in my opinion, doesn't really hit the bullseye for a dress watch though.

Ha ha, well, so much for it not being round eh?  Still you've got to admit he's got a WIS in him trying to get out.  He saw something he just HAD to have and he's getting it!

Good for him, may it bring him much joy.

Agree with Upside, and I too have to put the CW on my list of must want's mistake.gif... that was definitely a spot-on recommendation based on the initial criteria
