Yesterday I saw a picture of the Debaufre Ocean-1 and fell in love with the watch immediately and this is maybe because many years ago I had a Submariner that unfortunately got stolen. I am not wanting to spend too much on my watch hobby anymore, so I ask all...what may be considered as the best homage watch for the $$ invested? We all know the price for the R...x, and the Ocean-1 goes for about $500.00, but I would like suggestions with approx. pricing and pictures if possible. I would prefer automatics but Quartz is OK. Pricing by bracket would be fine $0 to $100, $101 to $200, etc... Mind you, I am not looking for any fakes, just for Homage or look alikes with their own appropriate brand.![]()

Hi jose and welcome on 3T! I bought this Epos some months ago: It's a limited serial of 222 pieces who was reserved to the Asian market. I fell in love with the markers and the green "Millegauss" chapter ring. Also the 44mm brushed case was a plus for me... Water resistant 200m is good enough. I am more than happy with it since the first day: The quality is amazing for the 700$ I paid. The bezel is beautifully sharp fluted and it click perfectly with no slak at all. The movement is a 2824-2 ETA and work precisely. Lume is correct for the sizse of the markers and bracelet is top with diver extention/security clasp. The all finish shows a watch much more expensive than what you pay and another thing I prefer is the absence of cyclop in the sapphire crystal. Epos is originaly making a sub more classic(black/white usual tones) and this one was a special serial that you may be lucky enough to find. If not you might consider them wide production model. It is special as unusual and nicely made: That's why I like it. ![]() ![]() ![]()

As Oscar said, this subject has been covered many times, but since I've been down this road I'll help the best I can. I'll give you my list in what I consider top quality on down. 1) MKII LRRP. You can order this in a variety of configurations. To include a 5517 milsub version. Top quality parts. Excellent service and QC, but usually with a bit of a wait and a price tag of over a $1000. 2) Debaufre/Steinhart Ocean 1. Quality parts. Excellent service and above average QC. By all accounts, if there's a problem then they're very good about fixing it in a very timely manner. Fair price of around $500. But I believe you know this already. 3) Tigershark. These are no longer made with the ETA 2824, but they pop up on the sales forums from time to time. I had one of these and while not perfect, it was a very good watch. I consider this one an excellent nang for the buck. These are popular with modders, so when you do find them they've often had dial and hands replaced with MKII parts. Usually can be had for around $400. Sandoz) I usually see these on eBay or the sales forums. Supposedly a pretty good watch if you can find one with the Swiss movement in it. I usually see them for around $200-$300. This isn't the most comprehensive list, but just the first ones I could think of off the top of my head. There are some other companys out there that make sub or sub-esque homages. Use the search engine here and do your research and other places and I'm sure you'll find something you. Although I'm pretty sure the Debaufre is a good choice. Their watches are an excellent bang for the buck. Last edited on Wed Apr 7th, 2010 01:20 pm by murphy j |

If I remember right, josejmarti, your avatar was an Aztec design or something? Anyway, welcome aboard or welcome back ![]() Aside from the Debaufre' you mentioned and the Epos and MKII also mentioned by William and Murphy J, I'd like to suggest the Seiko SBDC 001, the black Sumo. It's built slightly bigger and slightly heftier than the R**** Sub and has been reviewed with high marks. It's made in Japan and sells slightly north of US$560. If you're not comfortable with this brand or going Japanese, I'd say go Debaufre' at the price point you're already comfortable with. Hope this helps.
