I have a new watch(not yet in new arrivals, but soon) that has some fine scratches in the anti-reflective coating. Is there a way to polish them out? Or would polishing them just remove the coating? I'm hoping some of the more experienced members will have some advice on this. All my previous watches with AR have had it on the inside.

Hey murphy,

Well, I don't consider myself a watch expert...I learn something new everyday!!thumbsup.gif

If it is an AR coating on the outside of the crystal, and the fine scratches bother you enough to want to get rid of them, you cannot polish the scratches out (and maintain the outer AR coating)...you can only polish the outer AR coating off.  The good news is that crystals that are coated on the outside are usually also coated on the inside, so you won't loose all of the AR coating goodness. --(and I admit, I'm a fan of double-AR coated crystals due to the crystal all but disappearing unless it is quite dirty).

I have heard of people polishing off the outer AR coating quite easily...have never done it myself though.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

...and btw, cannot wait to see the NEW ARRIVAL!!!

just polish it off,I use something called Wenol which is an all purpose metal polish that removes the AR coating quickly while leaving a nice clear crystal...I did it to my B&R Classic a while ago and it looks perfect.ThumbsUp02.gif

I agree with Oscar: Better to polish it off dry...
Acetone or other solvents on a cloth would certainly remove it but might drop inside the bezel and burn any gasket there: No good.
Good luck!

Yes just polish the AR off if the defects are such that they are bothersome.

Thanks for the replys guys. It's not that bothersome yet, but I was wondering if there might be a way to clean it up a bit. Apparently not, but that's okay. Bear with me as I haven't had time to get any photos of the watch, but it will show up in New Arrivals very, very soon.
