This is obviously a ton of bang-for-the-buck from Clemens at Helberg!

The discounted Isofrane for preorders and the free Maddog strap for the first 300 preorders really seems to make this a no-brainer and completely irresistable!crap.gif

I don't really need another watch right now, but....well...subtlelaugh.gif

This seems awfully inexpensive for bronze. Do we think it is legit? I'm tempted, but I remember some prior cautions on this forum about pre-orders and low price bronze projects.

While true that Clemens has not advertised CuSn8 Bronze on the order page...(the order page simply says "bronze").

Clemens has stated on another forum that the CH-6 will indeed use CuSn8 bronze.thumbsup.gif

Quote from Clemens:
"Re: HELBERG CH6 - PRE-ORDER - MADDOG + ISOFRANE SPECIAL
We will use CuSn8. If I remember correctly, I have added an image of the raw material in the "old" CH6 thread."

His reputation to deliver makes all the difference IMO.bravo.gif

So, how is he selling CuSn8 bronze for under $500? I have read here a number of times that it is not possible.

You are right Timbo, and to date I believe we were correct in our assumptions with upstart companies, same goes here, based on the reputation of the brands owner.I was however told by a well known watch manufacturer that with the impact of CuSn8 bronze within the watch industry, the once German sourced CuSn8 bronze is now also being produced in China.I am not sure if this is what Clemens is using, but it would make sense that this is why the cost has come down. The Helberg Ch-1 is advertised as using "German Made CuSn8" where as the Ch-6 is not,as I said above, perhaps Clemens will come on and clarify.ThumbsUp02.gif

That would make sense to me, as everything from China is cheaper! I really don't care where the material is sourced, as long as the quality and appearance is good. Depending on the response, I may jump in on this one. I like the bronze/brown dial/black bezel combination. ThumbsUp02.gif

From my experience and knowledge from my last material quotations and purchases the price for the different bronze types are nearly identically. There is a small difference of less than one Euro per kilogram!

Tungum, which is also a Copper based material and which we were using for our watches too, is about 4x more expensive than bronze.

Best wishes from Germany

Today we have received the first samples of the HELBERG CH6 mesh bracelet. We will add the engraving of the HELBERG logo for final version.

The length of the shark mesh bracelet is approx. 190mm and has removeable links to adjust to your wrist size!
The tickness of the shark mesh bracelet is 4.30mm! :-)

The HELBERG CH6 MESH mounted to the H2O ORCA VINTAGE:

I like it also on my ORCAS.

Thanks for the info, Clemens.  Based on your reputation here (and elsewhere) I went ahead and placed my order today (bronze/brown/black bezel).  This will be my first bronze watch.  Can't wait to see it!  Best of luck with the pre-order.

Bronze, Blue Dial, Domed Crystal (I also went with the chromed handset instead of the brass/gold handset that is often used on the bronze cases). Looking forward to this one! chickendance.gif

What combo (or combos...seems like many ordered more than one!), did you go with?

Phil - great to hear yours is landing soon too!

Those gold hands will really pop against that black dial Phil! thumbsup.gif (I suspect that there may not be many of the ss cased versions with the gold handset).cool.gif ...cool vintage vibe with that choice.

I went with the chrome handset, since I thought it would play better with the blue dial that I chose...I'm still a sucker for bronze cases.

Picked up my CH6 this evening. Incredibly well done watch by Clemens IMO...gets my vote for watch deal of the year, including a package of two leather straps (one extremely soft Maddog Shark strap and another vintage looking brown leather, plus the optional Isofrane that I added)...also included 2 imposing and well done Maddog Bronze buckles, one with each leather strap!)bravo.gif thumbsup.gif

Watch is extremly well built with spot on bezel and crown action, and everything aligned perfectly. Great attention to detail in the case design, which is very comfortable on the wrist. Two thumbs up! Thumbsup3.gif

It's getting dark, so a couple quick pics...(This is a blue dial on blue Isofrane) - hope to add some better pics with better lighting.

Thanks Greg! thankyou.gif

You are going to be very happy with the build on these (so well done, and at this price point even more amazing). It is a very substantial piece on the wrist too...wears a bit bigger than I was expecting it would, but I REALLY like it!

I hope you see yours soon!

Here's a sunny shot showing the blue dial a little better.

I forgot to mention...you likely have already seen the OceanicTime blog piece that showed your combo with the green dial. Looks hot with the green dial!

The option of a rubber strap is a genuine Isofrane strap and was offered as an additional cost option at the time of reservation (discounted nicely to what you have to pay direct from Isofrane if I remember correctly). If you ordered it with your original reservation, it will arrive with the watch.

I did order the optional Isofrane, and it also included the very soft and nicely done Maddog Shark Strap plus another vintage brown leather strap & 2 huge Maddog Bronze Buckles. I saw a thread on another site talking about the addition of yet another strap (canvas)that may either be sent with the watch or sent later on....I'm assuming color coordinated to the dial color chosen. May be little more than a rumor...

The blue is very nice, showing alot of character and personality depending on the lighting conditions, but I'm pretty sure all color combos will be absolute winners.thumbsup.gif

After they are shipped we will mainly receive the CH6 in bronze with solid bezel and different dials/crystals.

@stew77: Your patina looks WWWWWOOOOWWWWW!!!
Did you achiew that with the LOS XL Gel?

I have that in my office, but never tried. .... As soon as life gets to normal state back again I will give it a try.

Great to see you posting up here on 3T Clemens!!!

Killer job on the CH6...absolutely top notch build all the way IMO!!!thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the kind words on my patina! Yes, I used the LOS Gel to achieve a quick acceleration of things. It is always a bit of a trial and error process to get things how you want them, but I'm very happy with how mine turned out.

When I have the specialist here: :-)

How to achieve the best natural result? OK, depends, but...

- do I have to dip the full watch into the diluted fluid or
- do you use a cloth to wipe it with the diluted fluid or
- will it be heated in a bottle and the watch is just on top of the raising gas????

Have to search in the internet, I´m sure there are some explanations.

I think this will be also cool for the CH1 or CH8 and have to try it with the Tungum material as well. :-)

With the LOS, you prepare the diluted fluid (think I used something like a teaspoon of LOS gel to 10-12 oz of water roughly). (It is also important IMO to heat the water before mixing in the LOS...I try to heat it to around 160°F so that it will be around 140°F when I submerge the watch). I have heard of people wiping the watch with the LOS fluid, but I've never tried that. The temperature of the mixture seems to have an affect on the color of patina achieved, but I've never really experimented too much with a range of temps...hot bronze and hot los mixture yields a more durable patina IMO.

I think you get the best experience when you preheat the watch case (I run it under hot tap water before doing a full submerge of the watch into the hot LOS mixture). In seconds (3-10 seconds literally), you will have the watch reacting and can customize it to what you like. If the watch turns really dark (black), you can always post-polish the really dark stuff off revealing the colored patina below. (I always transfer the watch from the hot LOS mixture directly to a cold baking soda/water bath to stop the reaction).

This is always a bit of an arts & crafts experiment and your individual results may/will vary!

I did my CH1 bronze too, and that bronze reacted slightly different than the CH6 did...I will likely put my CH1 through another round of LOS gel.

THANK YOU FOR THE DETAILED EXPLANATION! :-) Patina in seconds: WOW!

I will give it a try next month you as you proposed with dipping in hot diluted fluid. If it totally goes wrong I will bead-blaster the surface. Fortunately I have some buckles to try before. :-)

Great idea to start with the buckles first (I started with those incredible Maddog bronze buckles that you included with the CH6, and they reacted very similarly to the bronze case on the CH6). So after I dipped the buckles and polished them a bit, I then dipped the watch case.

It has been said that the patina can be removed with lemon juice or a mixture of citric acid (which is a variation of lemon juice I guess).

I have not done this, but it looks like people have had success with it...some others here at 3T may have done similar.
