I have a dumb question......Since my collection "stinks" and I only have one ETA 2824 I was wondering if this sounds correct. The Swiss ETA 2824 can only be hand wound 2-4 times (turns) then placed on wrist for further winding. Is this correct or is their a problem with the movement? Thanks!! |

ETA 2824 (regardless of version; date or no date) can be handwound fully until the mainspring spins in the barrel (what some would mistakenly call a 'clutch') How do you know its only effective for 2 to 4 turns? I have to agree with Marc...You should be able to wind it as much as You want.....are You saying that after 2 winds the Crown won't wind anymore ![]() |

I've got the same issue w/ my 2824, model 2116. There is a LOT of resistance when I handwind, which I do most days. It's crown is so thin, it actually hurts my fingers to wind! Not to sound wimpy :D but none of my other watches have any where near that much resistance. |

On average I wind my 2824's 20 or so half turns each week and have never had the issue, and I have a few. The seals on some stems are so tight and offer a lot of resistance but that should be felt from first turn. The winding of the spring is an ever increasing tension to the point that it slips as Marc said. Had the hair springs seem to want to stick the first wind on some Unitas hand winds but never on a 2824. Last edited on Fri Jul 7th, 2006 01:01 pm by e.avery |

It does offer resistance from first turn and when I listen to it, it sounds ok like the main spring is not under any undo stress...If you know what I mean!!! |

Yes wind it clockwise. Wear the watch for a week or so and see if the crown loosens up and get back to us on it. Some will loosen over time. The warranty is life time so give it a week. I will tell you what Dr. Brunson told me there is no such thing as a dumb question. |

But maybe it will loosen up I'll have to work with it for a week and if it doesn't get any better I'll call LP and ask them..Heck its a life time warrenty! Thanks everyone! |

OK, Today I was over my Dad's house and I checked his JL with th eta 2824 and his winds the same so I figure that it must be the way 2824's operate. Maybe I'm just to use to the 8215 Myota (sp).......The reason why I ask is I'm considering selling my LP Monaco and I wouldn't want to sell the watch if there was a problem......I would send it to be fixed first then sell it.... |
