I like Mark's comments on the differences between the two watches. As an owner of both a Sinn and a Fortis I will state my opinion that a Fortis lacks nothing when compared to Sinn. And I certainly am not implying Mark has made that distinction.

For this comparison I went Sinn simply because I find the dial more legible. I am certain either of the two would stand up to stiff punishment.

Sinn really does pack a lot of punch into their watches, designing them purposely to withstand extreme temperatures, magnetism and moisture. As for my 256TA, the thing is the only 7750 I have left and has never let me down though worn roughly from time to time.

Fortis in collaboration with Rosaviacosmos, the Russian Space Agency, has built their watches to withstand extreme conditions. I believe Fortis holds the distinction of having the first automatic winding chronograph in space. Fortis watches have also spent plenty of time in extravehicular space where temperatures can vary from -150C to +180C depending on whether or not you are in shadow or sunlight. Fortis has taken feedback directly from cosmonauts on their needs and performance.

While my Fortis is only a three hander and has only been with me  short while, I can say the watch is extremely solid inside and out. I too wondered at why Fortis commanded such a premium, but when I saw CJ's B-42 Marinemaster I knew the thing was virtually bombproof. The premium was well deserved...

So really this a toss up. I guess Fortis commands just as heavy a toll as Sinn and for good reason in my mind. I also just wanted to gratuitously post some pix of my pair...

Which Marinemaster, Mark?? Are you going chrono or three hander? May be GMT? Lemme live vicariously through you...

The short answer is no they are nothing alike.  Not to many parts in the 7750 of the Fortis is the same as the Hamilton/Swatch.  The Fortis is a Chronometer grade movement and has been well fit and thick dials that withstand 13 to 15 G's of force.

Both are right there but the black rubber band pushes it to a more tactical look with the Sinn for me. ;)

Thanks for that info and pics.  I guess it is just me, but I don't see a big difference in the movements in those pics, apart from the flared spokes of the balance wheel and slightly different finishing on the rotor.  Also, I haven't read anywhere that the V7750 in the Fortis was chronometer grade, the website states "V7750, decorated rotor" for most of their chronograph movements.

If the chronos are using Chronometer grade V7750 movements, Fortis does not make that info readily available.  Thanks for letting me know.

p.s. where on earth did you dig up those shots on such short notice???

I was originally looking at the Chronos, but that niche was filled with the Sinn 103 St Sa Ar.  Now I am looking at the B-42 Marinemaster in that glorious white luminous face... or a Stowa Seatime... toon1.gif

Do not worry about it, one day you will be able to recognize the different levels of movements by just looking at them.  That is the fun of it and why we all talk here in order to make informed decisions, but just because you do not see the difference does not mean that there is not one.

Keep coming back and do some searches from JohnyP he knows how to get the info from Adobe files posted on the site.  I have not learned how yet.

LOL, yes I guess I am showing my inexperience here!!  Thanks for helping me out.

I get frustrated when companies such as Fortis have totally inadequate websites.  They obviously have a loyal following and a nice product line, but tell us next to nothing about their watches other than they were worn on this flight or that mission.  I want to know about the watch.  Their marketing tean could use a lesson from Sinn and Ball.  Anyhoo, I'll likely be giving a Fortis a try and formulate my own opinions from there.

Either of those is a great pickup!! May be this will sway you... I don't have a Stowa but have handled CJ's and it is quite nice. But I can say without a doubt you would not be disappointed with the lume dial B-42!!

Both have v7750 movements and both withstand over 200 .40 recoils.   Both never missed a beat.   I went through a lots of ammo with them.

Sinn has the tegemented case that withstand scratches vs Fortis' sand blasted case.

Rubber band on Sinn is better on hard surfaces vs. ss band on Fortis.  I know Marinemaster comes with rubber band.

Both are highly legible and lume on Fortis is tad better than Sinn.

Can you guess which is bigger watch?  Fortis is tad bigger and taller than Sinn because of bezel.
